Because some authors have actually made it through and I'm a glass half-full kind of gal, I thought I would end the series with some successful self-published writers stories.
Each self-publishing journey is different and so is each success story but I like to think that a little inspiration from people who have actually been there can never hurt. So here are three of my favorite ones.
- Amanda Hocking
For those of you who have never heard of her, Amanda Hocking is the USA Today bestselling author of the Trylle trilogy and six additional self-published novels. She is also famously known for being a millionaire self-published author and hence a pioneer in the field. You can find out more about her journey on her website.
- Lisa Genova
Her article Self-publish or perish was a great read and full of tips for aspiring writers. It took less than a year for Genova's Still Alice to peak up until it was finally auctioned to Simon & Schuster for a six figures deal! Find out more about Lisa Genova on her website.
- Colleen Hoover
Hoover started publishing her first novel via Amazon's self-publishing platform and then put it up for free for five days. She started doing a little promotion from there to advertise the book as free. She started receiving positive feedback and even when she finally had to put a price on the book, sales kept going up. You can find out more about her self-publishing debut via this article she wrote for Kirkus Indie.
